Several startups focused on disrupting the dating app and social networking landscape have secured significant funding, signaling renewed investor interest in platforms fostering genuine connection and community. Whether it’s through AI-augmented matching, integrating Web3 capabilities, these companies are using unique methods to solve emerging and dynamic user needs and appetites.

Sharkoupsky’s social shopping platform, Rodeo wowed investors with its amazing 11-page, 12-slide pitch deck. This success was enough for its acceptance into the famed A16z startup accelerator. Earlier this year in 2024, 222, an IRL social app, announced a $2.5 million seed round. This app connects strangers together for dinner or activities through a fun personality quiz. The round was led by GGV Capital with participation from Investors in 222, including 1517 Fund, General Catalyst and Best Nights VC.

Other notable startups attracting investment include Kndrd, an IRL-focused app created by Gen Z founder Isabella Epstein, and Noplace, helmed by Tiffany "TZ" Zhong. Hangout, a social music platform, secured $8.2 million in seed funding, while First Round's On Me, a dating app, raised $3 million in seed funding.

Seam Social Web3-inspired social network, $2.5 million Cerca Dating app, $1.6 million Series, an AI-powered professional network for college students, recently closed $3.1 million in pre-seed funding. In other news, Howbout, a social-calendar app, raised $8 million. "We're entering this new wave of social where people are trying to revert back to what people really use these platforms for to begin with — which is connection," - Maitree Mervana Parekh

These policy investments indicate a greater awareness about the need for more social platforms that serve a different purpose, fostering authentic interaction and shared experience.
